TAMPA, FL – A convicted felon with a history of violent crime is back in custody following an arrest by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) and the U.S. Marshals Task Force related to a September shooting in Tampa.

Jontavis Williams, 41, was arrested on Thursday, after being located in Tampa on an outstanding warrant connected to the September 11, 2025, incident on the 12800 block of Beddington Court.

According to HCSO, Williams is accused of shooting his mother’s neighbor following an argument between the two women. When deputies arrived at the scene on September 11, they found the victim suffering from serious injuries caused by a single gunshot wound.

Williams, a convicted felon with a prior conviction of Murder in the Second Degree, now faces an extensive list of new charges related to the shooting, including:

  • Attempted Murder in the Second Degree (Firearm – Great Bodily Harm)
  • Aggravated Battery, Great Bodily Harm or Deadly Weapon (Firearm – Discharge)
  • Felon in Possession of a Firearm
  • Shooting at Within or Into a Building

In addition to the charges from the September shooting, Williams was also wanted in connection with a separate Tampa Police Department investigation into a firearm offense from October 5, 2025, and faces additional charges stemming from that case.

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister commended the multi-agency effort, emphasizing the danger Williams posed to the community.

“We will not tolerate violent offenders terrorizing our community. The fact that this convicted felon continued to carry and use a firearm shows his complete disregard for the law and public safety,” said Sheriff Chronister. “Thanks to our detectives and law enforcement partners, this dangerous criminal is behind bars.”
