Law enforcement officers from seven different jurisdictions have dismantled an organized retail theft ring that systematically stripped merchandise from stores across the region. The Martin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the arrest of seven individuals who investigators say worked in a coordinated effort to shoplift high-value items and smuggle them past security.
The group’s signature tactic involved using large ice storage containers to hide stolen goods. By concealing merchandise inside the bulky coolers, the suspects were able to exit businesses—including a retail location in Hobe Sound—without drawing immediate attention.
Following a joint investigation that spanned several counties, authorities successfully identified the group members and moved in for the arrests.
Of the seven people taken into custody, six are currently being held at the Martin County Jail. Officials noted that four of the suspects are non-citizens with active U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainers on file.
These four individuals face various felony charges in addition to their immigration status holds.
The individuals arrested have been identified as Naychel Alvarez Jerez, 36; John Kevin Romero, 22; Josue Rego Romero, 29; Albert Mario Socorro Alvarez, 28; Jose Carlos Perez Salgado, 30; Antonio Perez Torres, 26; and Lissette Rodriguez, 34.
Local authorities emphasized that while organized retail crime remains a persistent challenge for Florida businesses, this multi-agency operation highlights the effectiveness of inter-departmental cooperation in tracking and apprehending professional theft crews.
