A court in Tallahassee has officially upheld Florida’s newly drawn congressional map, denying a legal request for an injunction that aimed to block the districts from being used.
Following the judge’s decision, the Republican Party of Florida quickly praised the ruling. Party officials called the outcome a victory for fair representation, stating that the current map is completely lawful and accurately matches the state’s growing population.
Republican Party of Florida Chairman Evan Power issued a statement shortly after the court handed down its decision, focusing on the shape and demographics of the approved districts.
“Gone are the days of snake-shaped districts,” Power said. “Florida’s maps are drawn fairly and reflect the makeup of our state.”
Power pointed to the state’s recent shift in voter rolls to explain why the congressional boundaries look the way they do today.
“The truth is, Republicans hold a more than 1.5 million voter registration advantage in Florida, and our representation should reflect today’s Florida — not outdated, court-driven maps of the past,” he stated.
The party’s statement closed by crediting state lawmakers and the governor for their involvement in the redistricting process.
“We thank Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Legislature for their leadership in fighting for fair representation for Florida voters,” Power said.
