Matthew Harrison Sentenced After Pleading Guilty to First-Degree Murder and Strangulation
Matthew Harrison, 49, will spend the rest of his life behind bars after pleading guilty on July 23 to first-degree murder and strangulation in the death of his wife, Jami Harrison.
The devastating crime, which occurred on February 5, 2024, saw Jami Harrison, also 49, fatally strangled in her home, her body tragically discovered by her 11-year-old daughter.

Judge Jeffrey Conrad handed down a sentence of life in prison plus an additional five to ten years, underscoring the severity and malice of Harrison’s actions.
During sentencing, Judge Conrad condemned Matthew Harrison, stating he “had a duty to love, honor, and protect” his wife, yet instead “acted with malice and hatred” and committed “one of the most cowardly acts a man can do.”
Prosecutors detailed a history of alleged abuse, with one of Jami Harrison’s older daughters delivering a powerful impact statement, calling Harrison a “coward” and recounting hopes that he would be a father figure, only to witness his alleged abuse of her mother.

Evidence presented by Assistant District Attorney Fritz Haverstick included “vulgar and degrading” text messages sent by Harrison to his wife in the days leading up to her death, as well as messages to relatives and co-workers that suggested premeditation.
Following his arrest, Harrison made disturbing statements to authorities, claiming he believed Jami “wanted him to kill her ‘so she could stop being a wh–e,'” and that he thought he had “set her free.”
Despite these disturbing remarks, Harrison reportedly offered an apology for his actions in court, acknowledging “there was nothing he could say to help the situation.”
