A new poll reveals Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett as the unexpected frontrunner among likely Democratic primary voters for the 2026 U.S. Senate race.

The survey, conducted by the National Republican Senatorial Committee, shows Crockett commanding 35% support, significantly ahead of former Rep. Colin Allred at 20%. Veteran Democratic figures Beto O’Rourke and Rep. Joaquin Castro are currently tied at 13%, leaving a substantial 18% of voters undecided as the December filing deadline looms.

The race for Senator John Cornyn’s seat is shaping up to be a pivotal battleground. Texas has historically been a Republican stronghold, consistently fending off Democratic challenges. A Democratic victory in 2026 would not only dramatically alter the state’s political map but could also have far-reaching implications for control of the U.S. Senate.

While Crockett has yet to officially declare her Senate candidacy, her national profile has been steadily rising. In a recent letter outlining her bid for ranking member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, she emphasized her commitment to accountability and demonstrating the necessity of a Democratic House majority.

The Texas Democrat has also been vocal about her concerns regarding lawmaker safety, especially in the wake of a tragic June attack in Minnesota. On ABC’s “The View,” Crockett candidly admitted she doesn’t feel safe, highlighting that security is primarily afforded to those in leadership positions within the House.

She’s called for a reallocation of federal funds to bolster congressional security, suggesting a reprioritization of spending, even referencing events like “Trump’s little birthday parade.”

Crockett also pointed to the escalating “MAGA-driven hostility,” noting that even some Republican colleagues share her anxieties.

The poll, which surveyed 566 likely Democratic primary voters with a margin of error of ±3.03%, underscores Crockett’s significant early lead. However, with O’Rourke and Castro still potential contenders, the race is poised to intensify as the primary approaches, promising a dynamic and closely watched contest for Texas’s crucial Senate seat.
