Cyber Unit Trace Leads To Arrest Of Pinellas County Psychiatrist In Child Exploitation Investigation

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – A Pinellas County psychiatrist and local mental health clinic owner is behind bars after cybercrime investigators linked him to the online sharing of illicit material involving minors.

William Hervey, 61, was taken into custody on Tuesday, June 30, following a search warrant execution at his Palm Harbor home.

The investigation began when detectives with the Cyber Investigations Unit flagged child pornography files being accessed and distributed over the internet. Utilizing various digital investigative techniques, authorities traced the online activity back to Hervey.

Hervey is a board-certified psychiatrist and the owner of the Advantage Mental Health Center, located at 2845 US Highway 19 North in Clearwater.

According to detectives, the flagged files contained images of children between the ages of 6 and 8 in various sexual poses. Authorities utilized the Child Victim Identification Program to analyze the files, eventually identifying the images as part of a documented Russian child pornography series.

On Tuesday, detectives served a search warrant at Hervey’s residence, located at 4035 Carlyle Lakes Boulevard. Multiple electronic devices were seized from the property and are currently undergoing forensic examination.

Following the raid, Hervey was transported to the Pinellas County Jail. He has been booked on two counts of possession of child pornography. Law enforcement officials noted that the investigation remains ongoing.
