PASCO COUNTY, Fla. – With temperatures set to plummet and extremely cold air gripping the region, Pasco County officials are activating emergency measures to keep residents safe. Cold weather shelters will open on both sides of the county this week, offering a warm refuge for those without housing or adequate heating.

The shelters are scheduled to operate on Thursday, January 15, and Friday, January 16, 2026.

Doors at both locations will open at 6 p.m. each evening and remain open until 10 a.m. the following morning. Officials are urging anyone in need of a safe place to sleep to make their way to one of the designated sites before nightfall.

Shelter Locations:

  • Spring Hill: Shady Hills Mission Chapel, located at 15925 Greenglen Lane. (Info: 727-856-2948)
  • Zephyrhills: First Nazarene Church of Zephyrhills, located at 6151 12th Street. (Info: 615-483-4356)

County officials warn that the expected drop in temperature poses a serious risk to anyone remaining outdoors for extended periods. The extreme cold is particularly dangerous for vulnerable populations, including children, the elderly, and pets.

Residents are advised to take extra precautions to protect family members and animals from the harsh conditions over the next 48 hours.
