SARASOTA, Fla. – A late-night confrontation stemming from a reported suicide attempt in Sarasota resulted in the death of an armed male suspect after he was shot by deputies.
The event unfolded in the early Saturday when deputies from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) responded to a call regarding a suicide attempt in the 6200 block of Cardigan Circle.
When they arrived on scene at approximately 12:39 a.m., deputies encountered the man, who was armed with a handgun. The encounter escalated, prompting deputies to discharge their weapons. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office Deputy-Involved Shooting Team immediately secured the area and is investigating the incident.
The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that all deputies involved were unharmed.
