A devastating chain-reaction hit-and-run crash on Interstate 4 in Volusia County late Saturday night left three people dead and one seriously injured, prompting a partial overnight closure of the highway. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is now conducting a criminal investigation as they search for the driver who fled the scene.

The wreck occurred around 9:55 p.m. Saturday in the eastbound lanes of I-4 in the Deltona area, near mile marker 108.

The Chain of Events

According to the FHP crash report, the sequence of events began when a 2025 Dodge Durango traveling eastbound changed lanes from the center to the inside lane, moving directly into the path of a 2013 Ford Focus.

The left side of the Dodge struck the right side of the Ford, triggering the catastrophic four-vehicle collision that also involved a 2001 Suzuki motorcycle and a 2020 Honda Pilot.

The initial impact sent the Ford into the guardrail before it re-entered the eastbound lanes and collided with the Honda. The crash tragically claimed the lives of:

  • The 54-year-old Deltona man riding the Suzuki motorcycle.
  • The 59-year-old Palm Coast man driving the Honda Pilot.
  • His passenger, a 60-year-old Palm Coast woman.

The 47-year-old Deltona woman driving the Ford Focus sustained serious injuries and was transported for medical treatment. FHP noted that everyone involved in the crash, except for the hit-and-run driver, was properly equipped with either a helmet or a seat belt.

Driver on the Run

In the aftermath of the collision, the driver of the Dodge Durango fled the scene. Troopers later located the vehicle, which sustained damage, in a Flagler County parking lot. The vehicle was unoccupied and has since been taken into evidence by FHP traffic-homicide investigators.

The crash remains an active criminal investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact FHP at ∗347 or Crimeline at 800-423-8477.

The eastbound lanes of I-4 were clear and reopened to traffic as of Sunday morning, the FHP confirmed.
