“Defund The Police” Congressional Democrats Push To Create U.S. Capitol Riot Memorial, Plaque To Honor Police Officers Involved

Democrats have spent the last 18 months or so advocating for tearing down statues and cops.

Now, in a boldly cynical effort to hang on to power by keeping the Jan. 6 violence before the public, some of them are actually using the opposite tactic.

According to The National Pulse, 16 congressional Democrats want to build a memorial that will depict the U.S. Capitol riot a year ago, and honor the Capitol Police in doing so.

Under the ‘‘Capitol Remembrance Act,’’ as the bill is known, the Architect of the Capitol “shall carry out a project to design and install in a prominent location in the United States Capitol a permanent exhibit that depicts the attack on the Capitol that occurred on January 6, 2021.”

The exhibit would feature property from the Capitol that was damaged in the incident, as well as photographs from that day.

It would also contain a plaque whose purpose is “honoring the United States Capitol Police and other law enforcement agencies that participated in protecting the United States Capitol” last year. The plaque also would honor the “sacrifice of heroes, including United States Capitol Police Officers Brian Sicknick and Howard Liebengood, Metropolitan Police Department Officer Jeffrey Smith, and those who sustained injuries as a result of protecting” the Capitol, and any Capitol staff who helped restore the Capitol Complex after the riot.

Other “artwork” may be included.

The project would have to be completed within two years.

Honoring of the cops, besides being completely out of character for Democrats, is particularly disingenuous, since they’ve shown little to no sympathy for police officers injured or killed in the line of duty elsewhere.

Sicknick, as has been widely reported, died of natural causes shortly after the riot, and no connection has been made that alleged injuries he suffered that day contributed to his death.

Liebengood and Smith both committed suicides. Their families maintain they took their own lives because of the trauma suffered that day. The three were among hundreds of officers who were on duty during the pro-Trump rally that turned violent.

As The National Pulse noted in reporting on the bill, introduced by Democratic Rep. Jason Crow of Colorado, “The legislation adds to the Democratic party’s continued exploitation of the events on January 6th, epitomized by President Biden, who recently referred to the event as “worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War” and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who professed she thought she “was going to die” when Trump supporters entered the U.S. Capitol despite the fact the congresswoman was in an entirely different building at the time of the attack.”
