Last week, Florida’s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis appropriately crowed about his state’s booming tourism industry.
Even as three variants of COVID-19 engulfed the country in 2021, more tourists – about 118 million of them, as The Free Press recently reported – visited Florida to bask in the freedom furnished by DeSantis.
That group included two prominent left-wing Democrats in Congress: Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Eric Swalwell of California.
At the time, DeSantis noted he could list plenty of other liberals who had ripped him as the caretaker of a virus deathtrap, yet still came to Florida to escape the hellhole they normally lived in.
Apparently, this trend is continuing in the early days of 2022. And this time, it is a big coup for DeSantis.
The Democratic Governors Association is now holding a three-day meeting in Palm Beach. As in Palm Beach, Florida.
Admittedly, the Democrats will be in one of the friendliest places for them in the Sunshine State.
But leftist governors, such as Kathy Hochul in New York and Phil Murphy of New Jersey, have no qualms about spending a few days under the regime of Gov. “DeathSantis.”
Curiously, as NJ.com reported, Murphy fled to South Florida just as a major winter storm was approaching the Garden State. NJ.com reported that Murphy advised his constituents to “sit this one out” and remain at home because of the storm, and that the governor “noted he has largely remained in state during the coronavirus pandemic the last two years and that decisions to travel are based ‘very clearly’ on the ‘facts at the moment.’”
Perhaps some of those “facts” are that it’s going to be 80 degrees and sunny in Palm Beach on Saturday when the conference wraps up.
Curiously, a Google search of the terms “Democratic Governors Association” and “Florida” turned up next to nothing, except for the story about Murphy fleeing his state.
But as the conservative website Twitchy.com reported, some on the right didn’t let it go.
“Of course the Democratic Governors Association has their event in a Republican state, because they want to have it in an actually nice state,” one Twitter user noted.
“Why are all the Dem Governors coming to this 7th ring of hell and death named Florida?” another wondered on Twitter. “All I’ve heard is how people are dying in the streets? Why not have the meeting in the safe places of DC and NY?”
“Democrats heading to Florida? Isn’t that the covid-riddled evil empire of a mass murderer?” said another tweet.
“Democratic Governors Association coming to FLORIDA for a meeting.
Possibly the most delicious example of Democrat hypocrisy as now they are ALL coming here… together,” one more added on Twitter.
And as Twitchy.com itself pointed out, “Naturally they’re holding the meeting in a blue state so they can lead by example and follow all the stringent Covid-19 mandates they’ve put in place. Wait, no they’re not ….”
No, they are not.
