Dems In Disarray? Karl Rove Sounds Alarm on ‘Fight Club’ Insurgency Threatening Schumer’s Grip

Fox News contributor Karl Rove offered a stark diagnosis of the current state of the Democratic Party, suggesting that a deepening internal fracture could jeopardize their chances in key upcoming races.

Appearing on Fox News Live Thursday, the former White House deputy chief of staff pointed to a growing rebellion against Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer—not just from a younger generation seeking power, but from an ideological “Fight Club” on the left determined to rewrite the party’s playbook.

Rove argued that while generational turnover is a standard feature of political life, the current dynamic facing Democrats is far more volatile.

He highlighted a coordinated effort by prominent progressives, including Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), and Chris Murphy (D-CT), to bypass the party establishment. This group, dubbed the “Fight Club,” is reportedly actively working to install left-wing candidates in critical Senate primaries, defying leadership’s preference for more moderate, electable figures in battleground states like Michigan, Minnesota, and Maine.

“The notion that the more extreme left-wing candidate you can nominate is going to have a better chance at carrying those seats is ridiculous,” Rove said, warning that this strategy could effectively hand victories to Republicans in swing states where the margins are razor-thin.

The friction comes at a peculiar time for Schumer, who remains the party’s most prolific fundraiser. Rove noted the irony of the insurgency, pointing out that the very factions seeking to oust the Senate leader are simultaneously relying on the massive war chest he generates to fuel their campaigns. “It’s a weird messaging there,” Rove observed, “but it’s fun for Republicans to watch because none of this is, in the short run, constructive.”

The conversation also turned to the special election in Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District, which Rove cited as a prime example of the risks associated with the party’s leftward drift. The race pits Republican Matt Van Epps against Democrat Aftyn Behn, a candidate Rove characterized as being on the “far-left fringe.”

Rove drew attention to Behn’s past controversies, specifically referencing a tweet in which she allegedly suggested that burning down a police station could be justified—a sentiment he argued makes her unelectable in a district Donald Trump carried by 22 points.

While acknowledging that Democrats currently have an “energy” advantage following recent off-year victories, Rove expressed skepticism that it would be enough to overcome a candidate’s radical record in a conservative stronghold, though he cautioned Republicans against complacency in what polls suggest is a surprisingly tight contest.

Rove’s comments underscore a broader anxiety: as Democrats grapple with low trust among young voters and a restless base, the internal battle between the “Old Guard” and the progressive wing may be transitioning from a family squabble to a full-blown civil war just as the 2026 cycle begins to heat up.
