Derek Chauvin and Wife Kellie, Charged with Felony Tax Evasion

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Derek Chauvin is making headlines again today. This time for felony tax evasion.

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, 44, who was arrested Friday, May 29, in the May 25 death of George Floyd, had more than a dozen misconduct complaints against him, prior to the incident with his knee on George Floyd’s neck, which resulted in the death of Floyd.

Washington County Attorney Pete Orput, today announced, that Derek Michael Chauvin 44 and Kellie May Chauvin 45, both of Oakdale Minnesota, have been charged with multiple tax‐related felonies. 

Orput stated, “When you fail to fulfill the basic obligation to file and pay taxes, you are taking money from the pockets of citizens of Minnesota. Our office has and will continue to file these charges when presented. Whether you are a prosecutor or police officer, or you are a doctor or a realtor, no one is above the law.”

According to the charges in the press release, the Chauvins failed to file yearly tax returns for over $460,000 in income.
