Two political committees led by Governor Ron DeSantis’ chief of staff, James Uthmeier, raised over $1.5 million between Sept. 14 and Friday, as DeSantis continues his fight against proposed constitutional amendments on recreational marijuana use and abortion rights.

The “Keep Florida Clean” committee raised $1,301,288 during the week-long period, with a financial report showing it had approximately $6.25 million in cash as of Friday. Major contributions included $1 million from the St. Petersburg-based group Save Our Society from Drugs and $300,000 from Clearwater resident Patricia Duggan.

Another committee, the “Florida Freedom Fund,” raised $209,286 during the same period and reported about $4.95 million in cash on hand. Among its notable contributions was $100,000 from Palm Beach real-estate developer Stephen Ross.

While Governor DeSantis is not on the ballot this year, he has been actively opposing Amendment 3, which seeks to legalize recreational marijuana, and Amendment 4, aimed at enshrining abortion rights in Florida’s Constitution.
