Gov. Ron DeSantis filed a lawsuit six weeks ago to deal with the “Biden Border Crisis.”
DeSantis sued after President Joe Biden’s administration refused to answer questions about the resettlement of illegal immigrants who crossed over because of Biden’s open-border policy.
At the time, the Florida Republican said the state was challenging Biden’s policy “of catching and releasing the staggering number of illegal aliens apprehended at the border into the United States,” in an effort to “protect Florida taxpayers from bearing the burden of reckless immigration policies.”
“We will continue to hold the federal government accountable for refusing to enforce the immigration laws of this country,” said DeSantis.
Now, the governor has come up with a new wrinkle.
At a press conference Wednesday, DeSantis discussed Biden’s “clandestine” flights depositing illegal immigrants in the state in the “middle of the night,” which the governor said he learned about from federal agents leaking it to his administration.
“My view would be, if they’re going to come here, you know, we’ll provide buses and … I will send them to Delaware,” said DeSantis, referring to Biden’s home state.
“If he’s not going to support the border being secured, then he should be able to have everyone there. So, we will do whatever we can in that regard. And we are absolutely going to do everything we can,” DeSantis added.
DeSantis also complained that while Florida law enforcement agents he had dispatched to Texas to help state officials here, federal agents would put illegal immigrants on buses and ship them all over the country.
“How is that something that’s effective?” he said. The governor added that a Florida resident was murdered by “somebody that was brought in by Biden.” That referred to 46-year-old Francisco Javier Cuellar. A father of four from Jacksonville, who was reportedly killed by an illegal who posed as an unaccompanied minor to gain access to the country.
“This border should be secure,” DeSantis said. “We know what to do because it was working prior to Biden taking office.”
The governor also slammed Biden for wanting to pay families of illegal immigrants who were reportedly separated from families under the Trump administration. Biden’s team has suggested $450,000 payments as compensation.
“The president has said that basically, they want to even pay reparations to people who came illegally, just think about that,” said DeSantis. “You as an American, you get higher gas prices, you get higher grocery bills, you get told, basically, to just grin and bear it.”
“But someone breaks the law, comes illegally, and they’re going to cut him a check for hundreds of thousands of dollars,” he added. “That is just unbelievable. But that’s what we’re dealing with.”
