Despite Criticizing Trump For Banning Travel From Africa Due To COVID, Biden Bans Travel From Africa Due To COVID

Hypocrisy is a stock-in-trade for liberals, as President Joe Biden has proven once again.

On Friday, Biden announced a new travel ban on several African nations due to an outbreak of a new variant of the coronavirus.

“As a precautionary measure until we have more information, I am ordering additional air travel restrictions from South Africa and seven other countries,” Biden said in a statement.

Besides South Africa, the affected nations include Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.

The ban kicks in on Monday and applies only to “noncitizens” who seek to enter the U.S.

“It is the policy of my Administration to implement science-based public health measures, across all areas of the Federal Government, to act swiftly and aggressively to prevent further spread of the disease,” Biden said in the statement.

“Given the recommendation of the CDC, working in close coordination with the Department of Homeland Security, … I have determined that it is in the interests of the United States to take action to suspend and restrict the entry into the United States, as immigrants and nonimmigrants, of noncitizens of the United States (‘noncitizens’) who were physically present within” the nations he identified.

The irony – or perhaps hypocrisy – is that Biden has done nothing to stop the flow of COVID-infected illegal immigrants who cross the southern border.

The other irony – or hypocrisy – is that Biden, as a presidential candidate in 2020, routinely criticized former President Donald Trump for implementing COVID-related travel bans on nations overseas.

Breitbart News helpfully dug out several of those old statements.

On Feb. 1, 2020, for instance, Biden tweeted, “We are in the midst of a crisis with the coronavirus. We need to lead the way with science — not Donald Trump’s record of hysteria, xenophobia, and fear-mongering. He is the worst possible person to lead our country through a global health emergency.”

In February, he also took a shot at Trump for banning travel specifically from Africa: “Trump further diminished the U.S. in the eyes of the world by expanding his travel ban. This new ‘African Ban’ is designed to make it harder for black and brown people to immigrate to the United States. It’s a disgrace, and we cannot let him succeed.”

In March 2020, he tweeted, “A wall will not stop the coronavirus. Banning all travel from Europe — or any other part of the world — will not stop it. This disease could impact every nation and any person on the planet — and we need a plan to combat it.”

Also in MArch 2020, after Trump claimed his travel ban had saved lives, Biden said on Twitter, “Stop the xenophobic fear-mongering. Be honest. Take responsibility. Do your job.”

Meanwhile, it is worth noting that as Biden emulates Trump’s policy on the virus with a travel ban, his criticism for a lack of a plan is also a joke.

On Dec. 31, 2020, the U.S. had recorded about 336,800 COVID deaths.

Biden’s statement on Friday put the total at more than 773,000. This means about 436,000 Americans – or 100,000 more than last year – have died this year, which Biden has been president for all but 20 days of it, and has had the benefit of the vaccines.

Can’t wait to see how White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki spins the new travel ban, as, under his own standards, Biden’s policy on Friday should be considered a racist, xenophobic “disgrace” that is doomed to fail before it even starts.
