Detectives Investigating Deputy-Involved Shooting

CLEARWATER, FL. – Detectives assigned to the Pinellas County Use of Deadly Force Task Force are investigating a deputy-involved shooting this morning in unincorporated Clearwater.

The shooting occurred at 2175 Indigo Drive and involved the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. One person is deceased. Media staging is at Greenbriar and Indigo.

The Pinellas County Use of Deadly Force Task Force was created to ensure the investigations into law enforcement use of deadly force are thorough, complete, and objective.

The purpose is to make sure that officer-involved shootings in Pinellas County are investigated by an independent agency and not by the agency involved in the use of deadly force.

Clearwater Police Chief Dan Slaughter will brief the media later today and we will update this story when more details are released.
