POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A 47-year-old Apopka man died Tuesday morning following a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 4 in Polk County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at approximately 6:25 a.m. along the westbound lanes of State Road 400 (I-4).
A Chevy Silverado towing a trailer was parked on the outside paved shoulder of the interstate. The driver, a 47-year-old man from Apopka, was standing outside of his truck next to the shoulder.
At the same time, a 50-year-old Orlando man driving a Toyota Camry was traveling westbound on the highway. As the Toyota approached the parked Chevy Silverado, the driver lost control of his vehicle. The Toyota entered the outside shoulder, struck the trailer, and then collided with the Apopka driver.
Emergency medical services transported the struck driver to a local hospital, where he later expired from the injuries he suffered during the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol has not released the names of either individual involved. The investigation into the exact cause of the crash remains ongoing.
