Diplomacy On The Brink: Trump Rips Iranian Response In 2 Words, ‘Totally Unacceptable’

President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Sunday to blast the latest diplomatic response from Iran, calling the regime’s position “TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.” The harsh critique has sparked fresh concerns that the current ceasefire in the Middle East could collapse, potentially leading to a resumption of active hostilities.

The tension follows a series of escalations that began earlier this year. On February 28, the United States and Israel launched joint military strikes against Iranian targets after negotiations regarding the country’s nuclear program fell apart.

While the administration claimed a June 2025 strike had already “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear capabilities, officials now maintain the threat remains. On April 12, Trump ordered a blockade of Iran in response to a toll the regime imposed on ships moving through the Strait of Hormuz. Currently, an April 7 ceasefire remains the only thing keeping the two sides from open combat.

“I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called ‘Representatives.’ I don’t like it — TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! Thank you for your attention to this matter,” Trump wrote in his Sunday post.

The diplomatic friction follows a grueling 21-hour meeting in Islamabad on April 11 involving Vice President JD Vance, Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner. Those talks failed to produce a permanent peace deal. By April 25, the President canceled further travel for his negotiators, dismissing future meetings as “time wasted.”

Energy Secretary Chris Wright reinforced the administration’s hardline stance during a Sunday appearance on “Meet the Press.” Wright claimed Iran possesses enough material for multiple nuclear devices, including over 1,000 pounds of enriched uranium. He argued that dismantling the program would eventually lead to lower energy costs for Americans. While Envoy Steve Witkoff previously alleged that Iranian officials admitted to having these materials during a March interview, the administration has not yet released specific evidence to verify these claims.

Trump’s frustration appeared to boil over in a second social media post on Sunday afternoon, where he took aim at his predecessors. He accused former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden of being “weak” and giving the Iranian regime a “new lease on life” through previous financial settlements and diplomatic policies.

“Iran has been playing games with the United States, and the rest of the World, for 47 years (DELAY, DELAY, DELAY!),” Trump posted. He claimed the regime had been “laughing” at the U.S. for decades, specifically citing the 1.7 billion dollars in cash flown to Tehran during the Obama administration. “They will be laughing no longer!” he added.

The administration’s strategy has faced internal pushback. Joe Kent, the former Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, resigned on March 17, stating publicly that Iran did not pose an “imminent threat” to the U.S.

However, Secretary of State Marco Rubio defended the military action, explaining that the U.S. chose to strike first rather than “absorb the blow” of an expected Iranian retaliation against Israel.
