A major break in the search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie came this week as federal investigators recovered a piece of evidence that could link a suspect to the woman’s disappearance.

FBI officials confirmed that a glove containing DNA was discovered in the immediate vicinity of Guthrie’s home. Early observations suggest the glove matches the one worn by a man captured on doorbell camera footage at the residence on the morning Guthrie went missing.

The FBI stated that the glove has been sent for expedited forensic analysis. While preliminary checks are promising, the agency is waiting for final lab results to confirm the biological match. That testing process is expected to wrap up within the next 24 hours.

The man seen in the surveillance video is described by authorities as standing between 5’9” and 5’10” tall with an average build. Investigators noted that the suspect was carrying an Ozark Trail Hiker backpack when he was filmed.

Despite the discovery of the evidence, the investigation has not yet led to an ivory tower of answers. Law enforcement conducted a targeted operation at a house near Guthrie’s property on Friday, but officials confirmed that no arrests were made during that sweep.

The neighborhood remains on high alert as the search continues, though the FBI said no press conferences are scheduled for the remainder of the day.

Nancy Guthrie has been missing since earlier this week, and the window for a safe recovery is a primary concern for local and federal teams. Authorities are leaning heavily on public assistance to fill in the gaps in the suspect’s movements.

Anyone who may have seen a person matching the suspect’s description or who has information regarding Nancy Guthrie’s whereabouts is urged to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI. Tips can also be directed to 88-CRIME, 520-351-4900, or the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
