Report Claims Manipulation of Intelligence; Critics Decry Politicization of Intelligence Agencies
Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard on Friday called for criminal prosecution of several former Obama administration officials, alleging their participation in a “treasonous conspiracy” surrounding the 2016 presidential election.
In a newly declassified report, Gabbard claimed these officials “manipulated and withheld” key intelligence from the public concerning the possibility of Russian interference in the election.
Gabbard stated her intent to provide all related documents to the Justice Department, seeking “accountability that President Trump, his family, and the American people deserve.” She emphasized that “every person involved in this conspiracy must be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.” The Justice Department declined to comment on Gabbard’s remarks.

The ODNI’s memo specifically names former DNI James Clapper, former CIA Director John Brennan, and former FBI Director James Comey among those allegedly involved in the White House’s review of possible Russian election meddling.
This action comes amid a broader pattern of the Trump administration targeting critics and revisiting aspects of the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections. President Trump has frequently criticized former intelligence officials regarding their investigations into alleged Russian interference, previously accusing Comey of leading a “corrupt and vicious witch hunt.” He has also previously revoked security clearances of former Obama and Biden-era officials and promised investigations into figures he considers adversaries.

Gabbard’s report focuses on intelligence suggesting that “foreign adversaries did not use cyberattacks on election infrastructure to alter the US Presidential election outcome,” a point she appears to use to challenge broader investigations and warnings about Russian interference in 2016.
