Federal Prosecutors File Request in Manhattan to Release Records from High-Profile Sex Trafficking Investigations
The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Friday formally petitioned a Manhattan federal judge to unseal grand jury testimony related to the prosecution of Jeffrey Epstein. The request was filed in the Manhattan Federal District Court, where Epstein faced sex-trafficking charges prior to his death six years ago.
His death was officially ruled a suicide by the New York City medical examiner.

In addition to Epstein’s testimony, the DOJ also requested that the court unseal grand jury proceedings involving Ghislaine Maxwell, a longtime associate of Epstein’s.
Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2021 following her conviction on charges of aiding Epstein’s sex trafficking scheme. Her case is currently under appeal.

The decision regarding the unsealing of Epstein’s grand jury testimony now rests with Judge Richard M. Berman. Judge Berman, who was appointed to the federal bench in 1998 by former President Bill Clinton, presided over Epstein’s case before his death.
