The campaign for Republican gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds issued a sharp critique of Democratic opponent David Jolly on Tuesday, targeting his recent endorsement from U.S. Representative Maxwell Frost.
In a press statement, representatives for Donalds characterized Jolly as “pretty far-left” and criticized the candidate for highlighting Frost’s backing in the Florida governor’s race.
The Donalds campaign pointed to a series of past public statements and legislative positions taken by Frost, an Orlando-area Democrat, to argue that the endorsement reflects a shift toward progressive policy positions.
Among the points highlighted were Frost’s social media posts regarding former Governor Ron DeSantis, his comments on expanding access to reproductive healthcare, and his statements regarding immigration terminology and enforcement.
The statement also referenced Frost’s legislative focus on federal driver’s license gender markers, as well as past remarks concerning comments made by former Vice President Kamala Harris regarding border policy.
Gates McGavick, communications director for the Byron Donalds campaign, issued a direct response to the endorsement, framing the alliance as representative of the broader Democratic platform.
“Pretty far-left David Jolly and Maxwell Frost are a perfect fit for each other,” McGavick said in the release. “They represent today’s Democrat party platform: gender isn’t real, trans people need abortion care, and illegal immigration is encouraged. Jolly and his campaign are too-far left for Florida, and Byron Donalds will beat them soundly in November.”
