ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The City of St. Petersburg is opening its doors this weekend to help residents prep for severe weather before a storm actually hits the radar.
The city’s next “Second Saturday” sandbag distribution event is scheduled for Saturday, July 11, 2026. Residents can pick up supplies at the Pavement Traffic Operations Building, located at 1744 9th Ave. N., between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
City officials are urging the community to take advantage of the clear weather to secure their properties, noting that hurricane season is already in full swing.
While this weekend’s event offers a convenient Saturday window, city officials want to remind locals that sandbags are actually a year-round resource. The Pavement and Traffic Operations Building keeps regular distribution hours from Monday through Friday, as well as the second Saturday of every month, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
There are a few quick rules to know before you head out. Each household is limited to a maximum of 10 sandbags, and you will need to show a valid proof of residence to get them. If you are worried about the heavy lifting, city staff will be stationed at the site to answer any questions and to help seniors or anyone else who might have trouble filling and loading the bags into their vehicles.
