Door-To-Door Disturbance In Florida Ends In “Vile” Random Slaying Of Woman Walking Dog

A quiet afternoon in the Southwood community turned into a scene of “vile” violence Friday when a 25-year-old man allegedly stabbed a woman to death in a random, unprovoked attack. Kersten Francilus is now facing murder charges after authorities say he targeted a woman in her 70s as she walked her dog through the Stuart neighborhood.

The incident began in the 6000 block of SE Black Oak Lane, where residents first noticed a man wandering between homes.

According to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek, neighbors called dispatchers to report a suspicious individual knocking on doors and asking unusual questions.

“He asked several times, several different people, where the new bank was. There’s no bank around here,” the Sheriff noted during a press conference. Despite the odd behavior, witnesses initially described the man as calm.

The situation escalated rapidly when the suspect encountered the victim in a cul-de-sac. Investigators say Francilus launched a vicious assault, stabbing the woman multiple times.

While a “good Samaritan” tried to jump in and stop the violence, they were unable to end the attack. A deputy, who was already responding to the initial calls about the suspicious man, arrived to find the suspect “actively stabbing” the victim while she lay on the ground.

“Our suspect was on top of her, actually actively stabbing her,” Budensiek said. The suspect surrendered and dropped his weapon as soon as the deputy confronted him.

The victim was rushed to the Cleveland Clinic Martin South with wounds to her upper torso, but died shortly after arrival.

Detectives have confirmed there was no known connection between Francilus and the victim, describing the event as an “extremely violent, random act.”

Francilus, who reportedly lives in a community near Southwood, has been booked into the Martin County Jail. Crime scene investigators remained on the scene late into the evening, though Sheriff Budensiek emphasized that there is no further threat to the public following the arrest.

“This was a violent, vile homicide,” the Sheriff told reporters, noting that no clear motive has been established for the attack.
