BRANDON, Fla. – The workday for two solicitors turned into a violent confrontation Wednesday night in Brandon after a man allegedly opened fire during a dispute. Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 38-year-old Reginald McGee following the shooting at the Providence Townhomes.

The incident began around 8 p.m. on February 18 along Fluorshire Drive. According to investigators, a man and his female colleague were walking through the neighborhood selling telecommunication services. The interaction soured when McGee reportedly became verbally aggressive toward the woman.

Witnesses told detectives that as the two workers tried to walk away and de-escalate the situation, McGee physically attacked the male solicitor. During the scuffle, McGee allegedly pulled a handgun from his waistband and began firing. Even as the victim tried to run for safety, authorities say McGee chased him down, continuing to shoot until his firearm was empty.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they found the victim with several gunshot wounds to his lower body. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical staff confirmed his injuries were not life-threatening. McGee was apprehended shortly after when he stepped out of his home while still carrying a weapon.

Sheriff Chad Chronister characterized the event as a “completely unnecessary escalation,” noting that the victim was simply doing his job when the violence broke out. He credited the quick response of his deputies for preventing any further injuries in the residential area.

McGee has been booked into jail on several felony counts, including attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and discharging a firearm on residential property. The investigation remains open, and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office expects to release further details through its Public Affairs division.
