Double Arrest: Two Port Charlotte Men Behind Bars For Alleged Crimes Against Children

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. – Local authorities took two Port Charlotte men into custody on Wednesday following separate investigations into sexual offenses involving minors. The arrests of David John Reyes and Timothy Roy Bush, both of whom reportedly confessed to detectives, have prompted a stern warning from the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.

The first investigation began on May 6, 2026, when deputies arrived at a residence on Appian Street to handle a domestic disturbance call. During the visit, a victim disclosed to officers that David John Reyes, 45, had been involved in a sexual relationship with her since she was 17 years old.

The Major Crimes Unit took over the case, interviewing Reyes at the Charlotte County Jail, where he was already being held on charges related to the initial domestic call.

According to officials, Reyes provided a full confession regarding the unlawful relationship. He now faces a second-degree felony charge of Unlawful Sexual Activity with Certain Minors. Records indicate Reyes is a registered sex offender in Charlotte County, stemming from a prior conviction involving a 15-year-old child.

In a separate case that same day, detectives arrested 71-year-old Timothy Roy Bush at his home on Aaron Street. Bush was charged with three counts of Lewd and Lascivious Molestation on a victim under the age of 12.

This specific investigation was launched in March after the child came forward to authorities in Hillsborough County. Detectives say the incidents occurred multiple times during January and February of this year. Like Reyes, Bush reportedly confessed to the activity during police questioning.

Both men are currently being held at the Charlotte County Jail without bond.

“While I certainly appreciate my team for their work in finding and arresting these predators, it kills me to see so many children being hurt like this,” Sheriff Bill Prummell said. “I have made it very clear that this disgusting crime will not be tolerated in Charlotte County, and as long as there are people doing this, we are going to keep making them famous.”

The Sheriff also urged local parents to stay vigilant and maintain open communication with their children. “Have the difficult conversations. Believe them if they tell you they don’t feel safe in a certain place,” he added. “I promise you, we take every report seriously and we will investigate thoroughly.”
