A drive-by shooting Friday afternoon targeted the ABC10 television station, prompting an investigation by local authorities. The incident, which left the building struck by gunfire, comes amid heightened political tensions and protests following ABC’s recent suspension of late-night host Jimmy Kimmel.

According to CBS News, police responded to the 400 block of Broadway shortly after 1:30 p.m. following reports of shots fired. Officers on the scene later confirmed that the building had been hit.

In a statement, Molly McMahon, a spokesperson for Tegna, the station’s owner, said all employees were safe and unharmed. She added that the company is “fully cooperating with law enforcement” and has implemented additional safety measures.

Early reports indicate the suspect fired into the building from a vehicle before fleeing the scene. As of Friday evening, no injuries or suspect information had been reported.

The shooting’s timing has drawn attention due to its proximity to ongoing political turmoil. ABC’s decision to indefinitely suspend Jimmy Kimmel came after the host’s controversial monologue, where he accused Republicans of attempting to disassociate themselves from the alleged assassin of Charlie Kirk, Tyler Robinson. This move sparked protests in California and New York in support of Kimmel, with prominent Democrats like Rep. Eric Swalwell and former President Barack Obama speaking out against what they call a “new and dangerous level” of “cancel culture.”
