Drunken Detour: Homestead Man Lands Truck in Pond Behind Sheriff’s Substation
A Fourth of July traffic enforcement initiative in Florida kicked off with an unexpected splash Thursday afternoon. A Homestead man, allegedly driving under the influence, sent his truck careening into a retention pond—a pond conveniently located directly behind the Martin County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division substation.

According to deputies, the man reportedly lost control of his vehicle, causing it to literally “make waves” in the nearby pond. According to deputies, the man’s “judgment was as bad as his luck” when he found himself in the very retention pond that serves as the immediate backyard to the facility dedicated to traffic enforcement.
Deputies, already on site, had virtually no distance to cover to investigate the bizarre incident. The man was promptly arrested and faces charges including Driving Under the Influence (DUI), DUI with property damage, and failure to register a motor vehicle.

Thankfully, authorities confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.
The Sheriff’s Office used the unusual event as a stark reminder to the public: “Let this be a reminder: if you plan to drive impaired, you might end up making waves in more ways than one.”
