PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – A vehicle versus bicycle crash this morning in Dunedin has left a 15-year-old cyclist with life-threatening injuries, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. The Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is currently investigating the incident.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:16 a.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the intersection of New York Avenue and Main Street.

Investigators report that Viktor Rakaj, 15, was riding his bicycle north on New York Avenue and failed to stop at a stop sign as he approached Main Street. As a result, his bicycle traveled into the path of a 2024 Hyundai Elantra that was traveling east on Main Street. The vehicle, driven by 16-year-old Michael Rodriguez, struck Rakaj.

Rakaj was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was reportedly not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Rodriguez was uninjured and cooperated with deputies at the scene.

Both teens are confirmed to be students at Dunedin High School.

Authorities have stated that impairment and speed do not appear to be factors in the collision. The investigation by the MAIT unit remains ongoing.
