TAMPA, Fla. – South Tampa residents may hear helicopters overhead early Friday morning as county crews take to the skies to curb local mosquito populations.
Hillsborough County Mosquito Management Services announced that aerial insecticide spraying will take place on Friday, July 31, between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. The targeted operation focuses on controlling adult mosquitoes across a specific portion of the peninsula.
The treatment zone is bounded by Swann Avenue to the north, Bayshore Boulevard to the east, and Tampa Bay to the south and west.
During the mission, a low-flying helicopter will traverse the neighborhood at an altitude of 300 feet, applying insecticide at a rate of 0.66 ounces per acre.
Should weather or other conditions prevent crews from flying on Friday, county officials have designated Saturday, Aug. 1, and Sunday, Aug. 2, as back-up dates.
