A Florida resident received an unexpected shock on Wednesday when they discovered a ball python coiled around the engine of their vehicle. The unusual discovery quickly led to a call for assistance.

Martin County Animal Control Officer Mollie Cameron responded to the scene and successfully and safely removed the snake from the vehicle’s engine bay. Following its removal, the ball python was transported to a local wildlife hospital, where it is currently receiving care and observation.

The incident highlights the dangers of releasing exotic pets into the Florida environment.

Ball pythons are a non-native species, and their release can pose a significant threat to Florida’s fragile native wildlife and disrupt the local ecosystem. Florida faces ongoing battles with invasive species, most notably the Burmese python, making the presence of any non-native snake a serious concern.

“It’s important to remember that non-native species, such as ball pythons, should never be released into the wild,” Martin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) noted. “Doing so can harm Florida’s native wildlife and disrupt the local ecosystem.”

MCSO is urging anyone who is missing a ball python in the area, or who has information on who may have released this snake, to come forward and contact them at 772-220-7000.
