The Justice Department signaled on Tuesday that a massive collection of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein is being prepared for public release. While officials stopped short of giving a specific calendar date, they confirmed in a court filing that the process is moving forward.

This update comes just as the government faces mounting pressure to open up the archives surrounding the disgraced financier.

Lawmakers in Washington have been pushing hard for transparency on the matter.

Back in November, Congress passed a law with overwhelming support that essentially forces the issue, setting a hard deadline of December 19, 2025, for these records to see the light of day.

That date came and went with only a partial release, leaving millions of pages still under lock and key. In the weeks since, pressure has mounted on the department to explain the hold-up and finish the job.

In the new filing, officials explained that the sheer volume of evidence is to blame. They are currently sifting through millions of documents, along with hours of video and audio recordings, to ensure sensitive information is redacted.

The Justice Department says it has made “substantial progress” in this review, noting that the extra time is necessary to protect the privacy and safety of the many victims involved.

Epstein, who was accused of trafficking and abusing dozens of underage girls, died by suicide in a federal jail in 2019.

While the government insists it is moving as fast as possible, the missed December deadline means the public is still waiting for the full picture of the investigation to emerge.
