White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt appeared on Fox News Tuesday, suggesting that a series of technical malfunctions during President Donald Trump’s visit to the United Nations were not mere coincidence, but rather a deliberate act of sabotage by U.N. staffers.

The press secretary’s comments came after an escalator carrying President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump suddenly stopped, an incident she cited as the first in a “string of irregularities” during the visit.

Speaking on “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Leavitt also pointed to a teleprompter malfunction and audio issues during the president’s speech, where she claimed the volume was noticeably lower than for the previous speaker.

“When you put all of this together, it doesn’t look like a coincidence to me,” Leavitt told host Jesse Watters. She referenced a London Times report that U.N. globalist staffers were “plotting to set up the president.”

Leavitt stated that the U.S. Secret Service is now looking into the incidents. She vowed that if U.N. staff were found to be responsible, there would be “accountability for those people.”

The press secretary had previously issued a warning on X that any U.N. staffer who deliberately stopped the escalator should be fired and investigated. She cited a Sunday report in The Times that said U.N. employees had joked about shutting off escalators and elevators to force the president to use the stairs.

The accusations come as a new Gallup poll shows a majority of Americans, 63%, believe the U.N. is doing a poor job. This sentiment was released just ahead of the annual U.N. General Assembly debate. The U.S. recently confirmed former Trump national security adviser Mike Waltz as the new U.S. ambassador to the U.N. and had previously announced its withdrawal from UNESCO, citing concerns about a left-leaning bias.
