A deeply tangled domestic dispute erupted into fatal violence last Thursday morning, leading to the death of one man and the arrest of another on a murder charge.

Richardo Michael Haymon, 40, is now in custody, charged with the murder of Ricardo Contreras, 36, following a shooting that unfolded around 3 a.m. at a Chevron gas station on Historic Old Highway 90 and South Acme Road.

A Conflict’s Harrowing Climax

The confrontation involved complex relationship dynamics: the woman who called 9-1-1 was identified as Contreras’s current girlfriend and Haymon’s former partner. This is not the first instance of conflict; the woman had previously reported Haymon for family violence in June, according to an arrest affidavit.

The affidavit states that the verbal argument escalated quickly. The woman reportedly tried to separate the two men, but the situation spiraled when Haymon allegedly pulled a gun and fired multiple shots at Contreras.

Contreras, who the woman told investigators was unarmed, attempted to flee toward the gas station store but was fatally wounded. Officers arriving at the scene found him with a gunshot wound to the head and pronounced him dead.

Evidence at the Scene

Investigators discovered five shell casings scattered in neighboring parking lots, pointing to a chaotic scene. A vehicle believed to have been driven by Contreras, which was registered to his mother, was also found with bullet holes.

Haymon was swiftly taken into custody following the deadly incident. He faces a murder charge as authorities continue to piece together the harrowing conclusion of this tragic domestic escalation.
