BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — A 17-year-old suspect is facing multiple felonies after a Saturday morning pursuit that saw a stolen vehicle driven down a public bike path and ended with a manhunt from the air.

Deputies with the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office say the incident began around 3 a.m. on November 29, when a resident in the Trillium subdivision reported their 2016 Hyundai Veloster stolen.

Patrol units soon spotted the car traveling south on the Suncoast Parkway Bike Trail. Despite attempts to stop the vehicle near County Line Road, the driver refused to pull over.

The car was eventually found abandoned on Wilson Boulevard in Masaryktown. Sheriff’s officials deployed aviation and K-9 units to scour the area for the driver. Just after 6 a.m., air support spotted a subject hiding behind a home back in the Trillium neighborhood.

Ground deputies, guided by the flight crew, chased the suspect through several yards before taking him into custody.

The teen, identified as Corbin Isaiah Knight, was charged with grand theft auto, fleeing and eluding, and burglary, among other offenses.

Investigators noted that Knight is also a suspect in other recent vehicle break-ins within the subdivision. Following processing, state juvenile justice officials released Knight to the custody of his parents.
