The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is ending its mandated flight reductions at 40 major airports today, signaling a potential relief for travelers and airlines who have faced widespread cancellations and delays over the past week.

The cuts, which reduced air traffic by at least 4% at some of the nation’s busiest airports, were primarily implemented due to a shortage of air traffic controllers during the recent government shutdown.

FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford announced Sunday that staffing problems at air traffic control centers are beginning to improve.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy expressed confidence that the flight issues will be resolved well before the Thanksgiving travel season begins to ramp up, offering an optimistic outlook for the busy holiday period.
