LARGO, Fla. – A scare at Largo High School this afternoon proved to be a false alarm after the school’s active assailant button was unintentionally activated, prompting an immediate and coordinated response from local law enforcement.

All students and staff are reported safe and followed established lockdown procedures flawlessly, police say.

The incident began when the active assailant protocol was triggered in error.

Following the activation, the school immediately entered a lockdown. The response involved multiple agencies, including the Largo Police Department, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, and Schools Police, who arrived on the scene to investigate the situation.

Authorities determined there was no actual threat to the campus.

While the incident was quickly resolved, the heightened security response had an impact on the school’s afternoon schedule. The dismissal of students was impacted as police continued to follow protocols and ensure the campus was fully secure before releasing students.
