PASCO COUNTY, Fla. – A report of a potential weapon on campus sent Watergrass Elementary School into a temporary lockdown Monday morning, sparking a rapid response from local law enforcement.
The Pasco Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the school activated its Active Threat Plan “out of an abundance of caution” following a tip regarding a student who might be armed.
Deputies arrived on the scene quickly to secure the perimeter and locate the individual in question. After a brief search and interview, authorities determined the student was not in possession of a weapon and that the initial report was unfounded.

“PSO quickly located the student and determined they did not have a weapon,” the Sheriff’s Office stated in a public release shortly after the incident. Officials emphasized that at no point was there a direct danger to the student body or faculty.
The lockdown was lifted within the hour, and the school returned to its regular schedule.
“There is no safety threat to Watergrass Elementary School and normal operations have resumed,” the agency added. Parents were notified of the situation via the school’s emergency communication system once the “all clear” was given.
