Family Dog Perishes In Overnight Dade City Fire, Total Loss Of Home

HERNANDO COUNTY, FL. – A Dade City, Hernando County family lost their home and family pet overnight in a fire that ravaged their property.

According to fire officials, at 1:55 a.m. Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services (HCFES) with mutual aid from Pasco County Fire Rescue, and Sumter County Fire rescue, responded to a reported fire in the 34000 block of Woodland Circle.

According to the homeowners, a member of the family smelled smoke and discovered the fire in the carport with the sound of fire in the attic.  All 5 members of the household evacuated the structure prior to the arrival of the fire department. 

The first engine arrived within 9 minutes and advanced a hose stream to attack the heavy fire in the structure.  The fire was brought under control at 3:13 a.m.

Officials say the fire resulted in a total loss of the home.

The origin and cause of the fire was conducted by the Florida State Fire Marshall and found to have originated in the carport.  The five family members were referred to the Red Cross for assistance.  Unfortunately, the fire resulted in the loss of the family dog.

HCFES responded with 3 fire engines, 2 ALS medic units, 1 Tender, Fire Corps, and 2 Battalion Chiefs for a total of 23 personnel.  Pasco County responded with 1 Engine, and Sumter County responded with 1 Engine.
