SPRING HILL, Fla. – A 19-year-old Spring Hill man operating a dirt bike was killed Tuesday night following a collision with an SUV on Deltona Boulevard, according to a report released by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 PM at the intersection of Deltona Boulevard and Loretto Street.
FHP investigators determined that a mini dirt bike was traveling northbound on Deltona Boulevard. The report noted that the dirt bike was riding without lights.
Troopers say a Chevy Avalanche driven by a 51-year-old Spring Hill woman was heading southbound on Deltona Boulevard. As the SUV reached Loretto Street, the driver of the Avalanche attempted a left turn, directly into the path of the oncoming dirt bike.
The dirt bike collided with the SUV.
The 19-year-old dirt bike operator was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Tragically, he later died from those injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
