A Thursday arrest brought a major update to a devastating April car accident in Oldsmar. Pinellas County sheriff’s deputies took 27-year-old Jayanna Clark into custody on May 28, 2026, booked on charges of one count of vehicular homicide and two counts of child neglect following a weeks-long investigation.
The initial collision occurred late afternoon on April 30, 2026. Investigators with the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) reported that Clark was driving a 2015 Nissan Altima eastbound on Tampa Road around 4:42 p.m. As she approached the St. Petersburg Drive intersection, 52-year-old Christy Proctor was waiting in the westbound turn lane of Tampa Road, preparing to head south in a 2021 Tesla Model 3.
According to deputies, both cars entered the intersection simultaneously and collided directly in the center.
The impact left multiple people injured. Proctor and Clark were both taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. However, two young children riding in Clark’s vehicle bore the brunt of the crash. A 4-year-old boy suffered serious injuries, while a 6-year-old girl was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
Tragedy struck a week later. On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, the 6-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries and passed away at the hospital. Officials confirmed that her next of kin were notified. The 4-year-old boy has since been discharged from medical care.
While the investigation remains ongoing, MAIT investigators noted that speed appears to be a factor in the intersection collision. Authorities stated that impairment did not appear to play a role.
Clark was transported to the Pinellas County Jail following her arrest. A booking photograph was not immediately available from the sheriff’s office.
