CLEARWATER, Fla. – A car was traveling westbound on Ulmerton Road in the outside lane approaching 34th Street North. The pedestrian, a 58-year-old man, was traveling in a motorized wheelchair northbound across Ulmerton Road. While in a marked crosswalk on the east side of 34th Street North, the wheelchair violated a red pedestrian do not cross signal.
According to troopers, the motorized wheelchair entered the path of the vehicle resulting in a collision. After the crash, the victim ended up within the intersection, as the car fled the crash scene. The 58-year-old man in the wheelchair died from the crash injuries.
The car is described as a white 2012 Honda Civic EX or EX-L.
