FBI Chicago Hunts Pair Posing As Feds To Swindle Locals

The FBI’s Chicago field office is issuing a public notice to identify two individuals caught on camera participating in a sophisticated law enforcement impersonation scheme.

According to federal investigators, these suspects have been contacting citizens while masquerading as FBI Special Agents, federal prosecutors, and various other government officials.

The scammers typically approach their targets with a high-pressure narrative, claiming the individual is either a victim or a person of interest in a complex fraud investigation.

Once they have established a sense of urgency and fear, the suspects attempt to solicit money or personal financial information under the guise of “resolving” the legal matter or protecting the victim’s assets.

Federal authorities are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying these two subjects.

“If you recognize these subjects, FBI Chicago wants to hear from you,” the agency stated in a recent bulletin. The bureau emphasized that legitimate federal agents will never call or approach a member of the public to demand immediate payment, wire transfers, or gift cards to settle a case.

Anyone who can help identify the subjects or who has information regarding the logistics of this scam is encouraged to submit a tip through the official portal at tips.fbi.gov. For those who believe they have already fallen victim to this specific ruse or any other online-based solicitation, the FBI advises filing a formal complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov.
