Federal agents descended on the legislative office of Virginia Senate President Pro Tempore L. Louise Lucas on Wednesday morning, executing search warrants as part of a high-stakes corruption investigation.
The FBI confirmed that agents arrived at the Portsmouth office with court-authorized warrants approved by a federal judge. The scene remained active for several hours as investigators were seen carrying boxes of materials from the building.
While the full scope of the probe remains under seal, law enforcement sources confirmed the searches are tied to an ongoing federal corruption inquiry.
In a simultaneous move, agents also raided a cannabis dispensary situated directly next door to the Senator’s office. Officials have not yet explained the specific link between the legislative office and the retail business, though both locations were secured and searched as part of the same operation.

Senator Lucas, a prominent Democrat and a powerful figure in the Virginia General Assembly, has not been charged with any crime. Federal authorities have refrained from naming specific targets or detailing the exact evidence they are seeking.
“The FBI is conducting court-authorized law enforcement activity in the vicinity of Portsmouth,” a spokesperson for the bureau stated, declining to offer further specifics on the nature of the investigation.
As of Wednesday afternoon, it remains unclear if any arrests are imminent or if other locations across the state are being targeted. Representatives for Senator Lucas have not yet released a formal statement regarding the presence of federal agents at her place of business.
