The Federal Bureau of Investigation has officially concluded that Thomas Matthew Crooks, the gunman responsible for the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, operated entirely on his own. The determination marks the culmination of what agency officials described as an “unprecedented” global investigation.

In an exclusive briefing at FBI headquarters on Thursday with Fox News Digital, FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino detailed the scope of the inquiry to reporters.

The Bureau’s team reportedly conducted thousands of interviews, pursuing leads across both foreign and domestic jurisdictions before reaching the solitary gunman conclusion.

According to Director Patel, the President was personally briefed on the findings at the White House. Attending the meeting as a “victim of the case,” the President was provided with the full details of the probe and reportedly expressed satisfaction with the results, accepting the Bureau’s final assessment.

Deputy Director Bongino pushed back firmly against lingering theories of a broader conspiracy.

“We have reviewed this case over and over, looked into every nugget,” Bongino said. “There is no cover-up here. There’s no motive for it, there’s no reason for it.”

Despite the definitive announcement, the case remains classified as “pending inactive.”

The Bureau’s findings may not silence all critics; questions linger regarding the logistics of the attack. Skeptics continue to point to the shooter’s digital footprint, asking how a lone actor secured multiple devices, numerous online accounts, and access to training resources—potentially even overseas—without external support.

For now, however, the official government position is sealed: the manhunt is over, and the shooter acted alone.
