Drivers in Citrus County should anticipate significant daytime and nighttime lane closures on US 19 and SR 44 from June 29th to July 3rd, impacting travel leading up to the holiday weekend.

CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 7 has issued a lane closure summary for Citrus County, alerting motorists to impending traffic disruptions on US 19 and SR 44 from Sunday, June 29th, through Thursday, July 3rd, 2025. These closures are scheduled just days before the Independence Day holiday, potentially impacting local travel plans.

Motorists traveling on US 19 from S. Jump Court to W. Fort Island Trail should prepare for periodic lane closures throughout the week. Daytime closures are scheduled from Monday, June 30th, through Thursday, July 3rd, operating from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Additionally, nighttime lane closures will be in effect from Sunday, June 29th, through Wednesday, July 2nd, with hours from 6:30 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Even more significant impacts are expected on SR 44, specifically from US 41 to the Sumter County line, encompassing the bridge over the Withlacoochee River. This section will experience around-the-clock lane closures beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, June 30th, and continuing until 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 3rd.

FDOT advises drivers to plan ahead, allow for extra travel time, and exercise caution when navigating these areas. Construction activities are a critical part of maintaining and improving Florida’s infrastructure, but they can cause temporary inconveniences. Motorists are encouraged to stay alert for construction workers and equipment, follow posted speed limits, and be prepared for sudden stops.

With the Fourth of July weekend approaching, these closures could lead to increased congestion, particularly during peak travel times. Residents and visitors in Citrus County are urged to check real-time traffic updates before embarking on their journeys.
