A 22-year-old Tallahassee man is facing significant prison time after a federal grand jury indicted him on a felony weapons charge. Malcolm Akeem Holloway was formally charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to an announcement by John P. Heekin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.
Holloway recently made his first appearance in federal court, arraigning before United States Magistrate Judge Martin A. Fitzpatrick in Tallahassee. His legal future will be decided later this summer, with a jury trial scheduled for July 20, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. The trial will take place in Tallahassee before District Court Judge Mark E. Walker. If a jury convicts Holloway, he faces a maximum penalty of up to 15 years in federal prison.
The case against Holloway required cooperation across multiple levels of law enforcement. The investigation was handled jointly by:
- Homeland Security Investigations
- The Tallahassee Police Department
- The United States Marshals Service
- The United States Postal Inspection Service
Assistant United States Attorney James A. McCain has been assigned to prosecute the case.
This specific prosecution is part of a larger federal enforcement campaign known as the Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF) initiative. Established under Executive Order 14159, titled Protecting the American People Against Invasion, the HSTF operates as a whole-of-government partnership. Its primary objective is to dismantle criminal cartels, foreign gangs, transnational criminal organizations, and human smuggling or trafficking rings operating both inside the United States and abroad.
The task force relies on multi-agency collaboration to target the spectrum of crimes committed by these groups, with a particular focus on investigating those involved in child trafficking or other violent crimes affecting children. The initiative also focuses on using federal tools to prosecute and remove violent criminal aliens from the country.
Under the American legal system, an indictment is simply an allegation made by a grand jury that a person has broken federal criminal law. It does not serve as evidence of actual guilt. Holloway, like all criminal defendants, is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial, where the federal government carries the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
