RUSKIN, Fla. – A Friday evening traffic stop in South Hillsborough County turned into a major narcotics bust after deputies discovered a massive haul of fentanyl and methamphetamine hidden inside a vehicle.
The incident began around 7:15 p.m. on April 10, 2026, when Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies spotted a vehicle on U.S. Highway 41 in Ruskin.
When units signaled for the driver to pull over, the vehicle did not immediately stop. Instead, the driver continued for nearly a full mile before finally turning into a residential driveway located on Ribbon Grass Loop.
Once the car came to a halt, deputies identified the driver as 35-year-old Deontay Voss. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a significant quantity of illegal substances, including approximately 26 ounces of fentanyl and more than 58 grams of methamphetamine. Investigators also located various items of drug paraphernalia inside the car.

Sheriff Chad Chronister credited the alertness of his patrol deputies for preventing the large shipment of narcotics from reaching the local market.
“Thanks to the proactive work of our deputies, these dangerous drugs were taken off the streets before they could do harm,” Sheriff Chronister stated following the arrest. “Those who choose to profit from this poison will be held accountable. We remain committed to protecting our community and stopping the flow of illegal drugs.”
Voss was arrested at the scene without further incident. He currently faces several felony charges related to the possession and trafficking of controlled substances. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities look into the origin of the seized drugs.
