ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is investigating a crash on State Road 54 that resulted in the death of a 55-year-old Zephyrhills man on Monday night.

The incident, which occurred at 8:52 PM, involved a moped, a pedestrian, and a second vehicle whose driver fled the scene.

East of Lamar Road, a moped traveling eastbound on SR-54 struck a pedestrian who was also walking eastbound. Both individuals were 55-year-old men from Zephyrhills. The initial impact caused the pedestrian to fall to the ground and the moped rider to be ejected from his vehicle.

The situation escalated when a second eastbound vehicle, a Chevy Silverado pickup truck, collided with the moped operator lying on the roadway. The moped operator suffered fatal injuries at the scene.

The driver of the Silverado, described only as a female, fled the area following the collision.

The FHP report identifies the fleeing vehicle as an older model black Chevrolet pickup truck, estimated to be a 2000 model year, and the driver as a white female approximately 30–40 years of age.

Authorities are requesting that anyone with information regarding this incident contact FHP by dialing *FHP (347) or Crime Stoppers at **TIPS.
